Warframe Beginner's Guide to Mods
“Rank” is the term given for levels in warframe. You rank up your warframe/weapon by using them to kill enemies, gaining affinity orbs in missions, and bonuses after you complete a mission. 30 is the maximum rank.
Unranked primary weapon (level 0)
The “leveling” sytem for Warframe is very different from other games, instead of directly increasing efficiency of the weapon/warframe itself when you gain , you gain slots for mods.
Rank 7 non-upgraded item with no mods installed (7 slots free)
Modules or “mods” are randomly dropped by enemies or gained after completing a missions. Once equipped, they provide certain abilities or enhance effectiveness of a stat. The number on the right of the mod represents how many slots it will take up.

Examples of mods
“Fusion” is the combining of mods to make them more powerful and strengthen the abilities they give.
Every level of increase of a mod, the mod slot cost goes up by 1. Any 2 mods can be fused together but fusing the same mod yields the highest effectiveness. Fusion cores, a special type of mod that are just used for fusions are also more effective than using other mods. It is recommended not to fuse with other mods other than fusion cores and duplicates if you are still new to the system.

Tips:
-use skills for other warframes that you don't own yet to level up the skill mods of your current warframes.
-at the start, you can use sentinel defense mods (with the "D" polarities) to rank up Redirection (+shields), Vitality (+hp), and Fast Deflection (shield regen) mods.
-Save your fusion cores for rare and valuable mods (Such as High level +damage mods, Multishot mods, etc.).
-Be careful in overcombining mods, make sure you can fit them all into your mod slots.
